Ignorance is not an Excuse, Levit. 5:1-6
I- If you have a test with?s from the textbook, do those?s still count even if
your didn't read the book? Yes, even if teacher didn't mention them in class.
- "I would have studied that if I knew it was going to be on the test."
-- Ignorance of God's law is no excuse for disobeying God's law.
:2-- you can't touch a dead unclean animal without knowing it (wild boar); they knew
what they were doing, they just didn't know it was wrong.
- Do you know which movies, websites, and CD's are "unclean"?
- We don't want to be "legalistic", but we do want to abide by God's laws.
- How are we supposed to discern between God's clean and unclean?
- :2-4-- God's Word is His precious gift. Dr. Waltz-- lacking political will.
Not reading Bible is lacking spiritual will. It's not we can't; we just don't.
- What do we say to God when He disciplines us for things we didn't think were sins?
"i didn't know." "Too bad. I gave you the book."
- Some obscure commands: Luke 17:1-3a; Matt. 5:21-22, 27-28, 41-45a.
- God convicts us of our disobedience to Him when we read the Bible.
- You're not less guilty if you read the Bible less; you're just clueless.
I- "officer, I didn't know what the speed limit was." Don't get a lesser fine.
- I've only met one person who thought he was "perfect," but he had never read
God's law. Apostle Paul realized his need for God through the law.
- God's grace covers all our disobedience, but we must accept it, and we must first
realize we need Jesus' forgiveness before we can ask Him for it.
- God's forgiveness should increase our obedience, not decrease it. Wise up.
