Foolishness of the World I Corinthians 1:18-31,
- Having a rational understanding of what you believe and why is important,
but the truths of God will never sound wise to some people(I Cor.2:4&14).
:18 - message of the cross isn't foolish; only to those who trust in themselves.
- They view the cross as weak, but Christians see it as God's power overcoming
our weaknesses(:18b).
- we don't know Christ by gaining diplomas (I-frame); it would lift us up. We
acknowledge it's b/c of our faults that Christ made Himself known to us.
:21-- God can never be reached only as a mental or human activity("save").
- knowledge is good but only if it helps you the least (8:1)/ The world says do what's
best for you. Christ said the greatest of you will be your servant.
:25-- wisdom isn't bad; it's bad when we pride ourselves on our wisdom.
- pride leads to comparison/competition against each other when our goasl as
Christians is to honor Christ with our lives, not ourselves.
:27-- God will use the strengths and spiritual gifts He's given you but He gets
even more glory when He users our weaknesses(b/c we can't take the credit).
- Gideon-- Who am I? 32,000 down to 300 soldiers "in order that Israel may not
boast against me that her own strength has saved her" (Judges 7:2).
I- I couldn't hear or speak well and was shy as a child, but I'll have a communications
degree and God gets more glory through my preaching.
I- Brett-dyslexia-- seminary, "Pittsburgh University" as a pastor(God's glory).
:31 - If we allow ourselves to be seen as fools to the world, we will boast on God and
not on ourselves. Who do you want to get the credit for your life?
