Joy in the Lord Habakkuk 3:16-19
- Anyone can smile in good times; how do your respond to tragedies? Joy
- Joy in God combats stoic hopelessness of the world. The world needs to witness
joy!
- Joy is eternal, unconditional, and ever-available.
- Joy isn't self-motivated; it's a fruit available from the holy Spirit (Gal. 5:22).
-- Habakkuk rejoiced in God through unanswered?'s (1:2); despite Babylon's invasion.
- How can you get JOY in the Lord like Habakkuk?
- Jesus-- place your trust, contentment in Him 1st ; He never disappoints you.
- I found contentment/joy in Christ alone before having friends; girlfriend.
- Others-- golden rule; be unselfish; my Mom is joyful from helping others ("more
blessed to give").
- You-- wait for last (:16) trusting in God's strength and sovereignty (:19). "Lord"--
conveys sovereignty; "savior" - God can save me from any situation, so I should
always rejoice in Him b/c if God leaves me in a "bad"situation, He has a good reason
for it.
- Do not pray, "God, please take away my troubles." Rejoice in Him through "good"
and hard times.
- I don't want to let circumstances of safety (:16), predictability, or well-being (:17)
dictate my walk w/God.
:16- Joy doesn't mean you're never afraid or sad .
- "Rejoice" -- an active choice; not an implicit possession.
- Joy comes from desiring God Himself (constant), not God's blessings (changing;
happiness).
- God's always fulfilling His purposes for me (Rom. 8:28) so I ultimately "rejoice in the
Lord" regardless of the situation.
