Want to get away? Matthew 14:22-23,
- Airline commercials (earphone; "thank you Detroit") -- wanna get away?
-- Many of you are going to Falls Creek this week for a spiritual retreat.
- You don't need time alone w/God every month or year -- but every day.
-- Mt.14:22-23 -- Jesus regularly got alone to spend time w/God.
- What was Jesus getting away from? Crowd; His best friends; distractions.
- You don't need camp to worship God but camps are an easier place to do so b/c
a camp takes distractions (TV, cell phone) away from you, but everywhere else we
must take ourselves away from the distractions. Friends can be great for fellowship
(which is necessary also) or distracting from personal worship.
- You always need to make a conscious decision to get alone w/God, even at camp,
b/c the crowd, friends, and distractions are still there.
- "i don't have any time to meet w/God" -- no none has it; you must make time.
- Jesus was busy but always made time w/thFather --"made" & "dismissed."
- Jesus sent over 10,000 people(:21) away including His 12 closest friends for the
audience of the One.
I-- jar of rocks & sand -- prioritize. Meeting w /God = biggest rock. Make time for Him
and you 'll have enough time for other rocks(HW; job) & the sand.
- Luke 4:42, Luke 5:16 - daily time w/God for a lifetime is more beneficial than any
week long camp, conference, or retreat. Luke 9:10-11, Mt. 14:13-14 -- Jesus loved
serving people but He needed personal time w/God first.
Mark 1:35 -- are you willing to sacrifice sleep to meet w/God?
- When I first had daily QT, I arose at 5:0 for worship music, prayer, & Bible.
- Time w/God shouldn't be a matter of personal convenience but a matter of
self-discipline and sacrifice.
- If Jesus needed time alone every day w/His Heavenly Father, how much more do
we need it ?
