Ezekiel 18: 19-20, 29-32: Individual responsibility
Man born blind- "Who sinned-parents or him?"
Parents Influence the Child: A child’s biggest life influence is their parents.
- Parents give language, culture, attitudes, beliefs…
- Parents can give values, but not righteousness
I: Pastor’s bad kids; Billy Graham’s son, "Who sinned?"
- Each individual makes their own moral decisions.
- Exodus 20: 5-6 – (Im) Morality affects generations to come, but God’s
salvation is available to all individuals.
I: Heritage of Godliness is the best inheritance to your descendants, but not all
may be Christians.
- "Vicarious righteousness" Defense: "Uncle goes to church."
- "Victim" defense: "Parents never took me to church."
Child Influences Parents: Children often adopt parents’ values; if not, parents
may grieve.
A: Person accepts Christ; family disowns or is saved
A: Christian families’ children may reject God.
- Who is at fault? Not the parents.
- We must be supportive for other individuals’ salvation, but we are not
ultimately responsible.
- Support them by teaching and living God’s ways.
Each person is responsible before the Lord.
- Tend to blame our responsibility on others.
- After 1st sin: "This woman (and Satan) made me do it."
- 18:2-4 – Israel thought punishment was because of ancestors.
- :30 – God: "Israel, I will judge you, each one."
- Hope for salvation in an evil society.
I- God spared Noah, Lot, and Rahab from evil societies.
- Deception of salvation in a "Christian" society.
- God calls all individuals to turn away from immorality, and to turn to God for
forgiveness and abundant life.
- Those who surrender to Jesus become God’s Children, but God has no
grandchildren.
