1.Jesus our high priest -- order of melchizidek
Priests represent A)people to God & B)God to people.
Priests all around world; why do we need Jesus?
- Imperfect sacrifice: Animal’s blood doesn’t cover it.
- Imperfect sacrificer: Other priests have sin.
Aaron—1st high priest sinned; made golden calf.
Jesus the sacrificer: Did it for others; he didn’t need (:7)
Jesus the sacrifice: Human blood needed to pay human sin.
Abraham to Isaac: The lord will provide.
2. Blood—is life source; sin consumes life.
I. – Passed out giving blood; took some of my life out.
- Disobedience requires death/blood: Adam & Eve; Animal.
:14 – 2 doves w/blood & scapegoat; set free to serve God.
:13,19 – Water, soap, animal’s blood can’t clean the heart.
:22 – Our sin could only be paid w/a perfect sacrifice.
- Jesus died for us; now we can live w/God.
- Sacrifice = Death = A great cost for our sin.
3. Most holy Place – Great cost for great reward.
- Holy of holies—God’s full presence in temple.
- High priest went once a year; cord on foot.
- Fear of intimacy; now approach w/confidence (4:16)
- Each year B/C it wasn’t paid; kill more animals.
- Jesus Paid it once for all; curtain split (:25-26).
- Most holy place is God’s presence; his spirit.
- Don’t need temple, city or humans to have the H.S.
- Have you asked Jesus to cover over your guilt w/his blood?
He is the only human to never sin, yet he chose to be the lamb that was sacrificed.
