Hell is a real place
Objective: The students will understand that Hell is a real place and the only way to
escape is through Jesus Christ.
Learner Readiness: Have the students stand up and raise their bibles and repeat the
following:
This is my bible, I am what it says I am, I have what it says I have, and I can do what the bible
says I can do. Today I will be taught the word of God and I boldly confess, my mind is alert, my
heart is receptive, and I 'll never be the same again. Never, never, never, in Jesus name amen.
Learner Activity: Read quote from online source of a doctor’s encounter with Hell.
There are over 162 references in the New Testament alone that warn us about the reality of
hell. More than 70 of these were from Jesus Christ himself.
Learner Activity: list the 5 truths about hell. Hand out note outline to students.
Read Luke 16:19-31
Truth 1 – Hell is a place of fire. – ask students if they have ever been burned?
• In Luke 16:24 the rich man said, “Have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip
of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.”.
• Matthew 13:42 Jesus says, “They will throw him into the fiery furnace, where there will be
weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
• Matthew 5:22c Jesus says, “But anyone who says, ‘You fool’ will be in danger of the fire
of hell.”
• Revelation 20:15 says, “If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was
thrown into the lake of fire.”
Truth 2 – Hell is a place of torment. – ask if they have ever suffered horrifying pain?
• Luke 16:23 Jesus says, “In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham
far away, with Lazarus by his side.
• Luke 16:28 Jesus says, “for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not
also come to this place of torment.”
• Revelation 14:11 says, “And the smoke of their torment rises forever and ever.”
Truth 3 – Hell is an eternal place. – can you imagine being in fiery torment forever?
• Matthew 25:41 Jesus says, “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you
who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”
• Mark 9:43 Jesus says, “If your hand causes you to sin, cut if off. It is better for you to
enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out.”
• Mark 9:48 Jesus says, “Where ‘their worm does not die’, and the fire is not quenched.”
• Matthew 25:46 Jesus says, “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the
righteous to eternal life.”
Truth 4 – God doesn’t want you in hell! – God is a God of love.
• Matthew 25:41 Jesus says, “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you
who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”
• John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever
believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life.”
• Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates his love for us in this, while we were still
sinners Christ died for us.”
God doesn’t send us to Hell, we choose to go there. Why would anyone want to go to hell?
Truth 5 – You can have eternal life in Christ.
• John 1:12 Jesus says, “Yet all who received him, to those who believed him, to those
who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
• Romans 10:9 says, “That if you confess with your mouth ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in
your heart that God raised him form the dead, you will be saved.”
• Psalm 34:22, David says, “The Lord redeems the life of his servant, none of those who
take refuge in him will be condemned.”
• John 6:47, Jesus says, “I tell you the truth, and he who believes has everlasting life.
Conclusion: Ask students to bow for prayer and offer an opportunity for anyone who wants to
make a decision to follow Christ. Close in final prayer.
